History of Glass Rock

by:Spring Glass     2021-03-03
It has existed since the Western Zhou Dynasty. It became popular during the Warring States Period. Almost all of the glass ware in the tombs of the Warring States Period excavated are glass rocks. Its development is inseparable from the continuous improvement of technology and equipment, and the cleaner glass texture. At the same time, people use less jade for decoration, which cannot meet people's requirements, and promote the mass production and exquisiteness of glass stone. In 1978, a world-renowned set of chimes was unearthed from the tomb of Zenghouyi in Leigudun, Suixian County, Hubei Province, and many glassstone strings were unearthed. The two strings of glassstone in this picture are funeral objects in this tomb. One of the strings is made of seven monochromatic glass rocks. The beads are round, purple-brown, with a smooth surface and a regular shape. The other string of beads is beautifully decorated. It is a typical dragonfly eye glass stone. It is mostly oblates of varying sizes. The base color is light blue or green. The surface is decorated with several white and light blue concentric rings. The central part is slightly higher than the surroundings and is convex. This string of vitreous rocks should be made by winding silk, and then dipped in white material and light blue material respectively, and dotted on the bead in a ring shape, and bonded together when both are not completely condensed. Dragonfly eye glass stone is the main form of glass stone in the Spring and Autumn Period and Warring States Period. It is also found throughout Central Asia, West Asia and North Africa. It is a common variety of Chinese and Western glassware. The size of each bead in this string is different, except for one that is green diamond, the other shapes are oblate with perforations in the shape, and the shape is uniform. These glass rocks are bright in color and regular in shape, reflecting a high level of technology, and can be used as typical representatives of glass rocks in the Warring States period. Glass Bead is an abrasive with unique characteristics that is widely used in cleaning or metal surface strengthening processes, and is mainly used in sandblasting equipment. Glass rock is crushed and sorted from high-quality broken glass. In manufacturing, the cullet must be melted into a spherical shape and then annealed to eliminate internal stress and prevent damage. This kind of transparent and clear spherical structure product will not have particles embedded in the workpiece, contaminate the workpiece or cause other damages. Using different size abrasives and different operating parameters, glass rock will achieve different gloss on the surface of the workpiece. The use of glass rock for selective local coverage controlled sandblasting on the surface of the workpiece can produce a special decorative effect.
